Master's degree education in design is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism withChinese Characteristics for a New Era, the spirit of the 20th National Congressof the Communist Party of China, the implementation of the Party's educationpolicy and the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talent, and thesatisfaction of the development needs of modern creative industries. With theconcept of "combining engineering and art, creativity and technology, andclassroom and market", it explores the modern creative design talenttraining model of "combining art and industry, and integrating industryand education", aiming to cultivate high-level, high-quality,application-oriented creative design and management talents who possess bothcreative theory research and design practice abilities, as well as the integrationof art and engineering technology.

a credit system, and the full-time design professional degree master's programlasts for 3 years, with a maximum study period of 5 years. Excellent candidatescan graduate early with approval, but the early graduation time cannot exceedsix months. Master's students generally spend one and a half years on courselearning and professional practice, and more than one year engaged inscientific research and thesis work.
This professional degreeadopts a combination of course learning, practical teaching, and thesisdevelopment, implementing a "dual supervisor system". Master'sstudents are jointly guided by on campus supervisors and corporate supervisors. The course learning adopts a credit system. During the semester, aftercompleting the required credits for the degree, one can apply for a graduationproject topic. The duration of the graduation project and thesis research workis generally not less than six months. The research work of a thesis should be closelyintegrated with professional practice, and the graduation project exhibitionand defense must be completed on campus.
The training processhighlights professional characteristics, emphasizes the cultivation ofstudents' practical abilities, and balances the cultivation of theory andinternal qualities. Emphasize the integration of learning and thinking, theunity of knowledge and action, and enhance students' innovative spirit ofdaring to explore and practical ability to solve problems. Adopting acombination of classroom teaching, individual coaching and training on skillsand techniques, and artistic practice as a training method. Actively createconditions for artistic practice, establish various forms of practice bases, increase the number of hours and credit ratios in practical activities, enablestudents to master the basic theories and professional knowledge of theirmajor, and improve their comprehensive practical abilities in art and design.Adopting the "1+1+1" school enterprise joint training model, a mentorgroup is formed to jointly guide design practice. Actively carry outcooperation and training at home and abroad, and broaden the internationalperspective of graduate students.
This degreeprogram is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with ChineseCharacteristics for a New Era, guided by the spirit of the 20th NationalCongress of the Communist Party of China, and with the fundamental task ofimplementing the Party's education policy and cultivating moral character. Itfirmly establishes the core socialist values, relies on excellent traditionalChinese culture, strengthens the concept of constitutional rule of law, closelyfollows the internal needs of social and economic development, emphasizes theintersection and integration of art, humanities, and technology, and cultivateshigh-end design talents with academic literacy, social responsibility, international vision, and design innovation ability.Master's students in designat our university should meet the following standard requirements:
1. Professional knowledge and design practice ability
(1) Shouldhave a solid theoretical foundation and systematic specialized knowledge indesign studies, understand the basic history, current situation, anddevelopment trends of the discipline, master the research methods, technicalmeans, and evaluation techniques of design studies, be able to chooseappropriate research directions, and use scientific methods to independently conductacademic research or design practice.
(2) Abilityto understand the development trends of relevant disciplines and apply them inpractice, possessing the ability to integrate knowledge from multipledisciplines and creatively solve problems; Being able to proficiently use aforeign language to search and access information, conduct academic research, and effectively communicate, laying a theoretical and methodological foundationfor higher-level learning and research.
Industrial Design: This research focuses on the theory and methodsof sustainable design for intelligent products, as well as theoretical researchand innovative design practices in related fields such as carrier and digitalcockpit design, product information exchange design, and sustainable productdesign. In response to the educational reform in the era of artificialintelligence, we aim to cultivate composite design talents who can adapt to newdevelopments and trends in industrial design and independently engage inscientific research and design practice.
EnvironmentalDesign: This research direction is guided by the concept of "design servingsociety," emphasizing interdisciplinary research and dedicated to thestudy of smart micro spaces and living environments. It focuses on thehigh-quality renewal and creation of urban and rural spatial environments inthe Yangtze River Delta region. The aim is to cultivate composite environmentaldesign talents who can apply new methods and technologies, adapt to the newdevelopments and trends in contemporary environmental design, independentlyengage in scientific research and design practice in environmental design andrelated fields, and have a broad vision and solid foundation.
VisualCommunication and Media Design: This research direction relies on theinternational location advantage of Shanghai, using digital language as theexplanatory method, focusing on the practice and method research of urban brandculture and urban image memory construction. Our aim is to cultivate compositedesign talents with the ability to independently engage in research on visualinnovation design practices and international cultural perspectives, through acommitment to the digital utilisation and revitalisation of urban culture, art, economics, video technology, and material and non-material objects in across-disciplinary perspective.
DesignHistory and Theory: This research direction relies on the policy system ofShanghai's design capital construction, exploring the conditions, laws, values, and future trends that have influenced the development of design since theindustrialization of society from a historical perspective. At the same time,it systematically explains the experience, theory, and methodological issues indesign practice from a theoretical perspective. The focus is on the designhistory, methods, experience, aesthetics, education, values, evaluation, andfuture development trends guided by technological philosophy in the industrialera, aiming to cultivate research-oriented talents with historical sentiment, broad vision, and theoretical thinking ability for urban construction.
